Fingers, Needles & Sticks: Finger-controlled Lace Sampler and Cowl on the Rigid Heddle Loom
Michele Belson, instructor
Explore the amazing possibilities on a simple Rigid Heddle Loom. Learn to direct warp a double-end warp on a rigid heddle loom and then design and weave a cowl of warm wool or cool cotton. First we will make a sampler of several hand-manipulation techniques that you can use on any kind of loom: Leno in many forms, Brooks Bouquet, Danish Medallions and Stars, with or without beads plus much more. For the sampler you will choose colors of sturdy 10/2 Mercerized Tubular Spectrum Cotton.
Then use your sampler to design a cozy cowl, weave it, and wrap up with a plethora of finishing techniques for your cowl. The instructor will provide you with yarn that works best with the design.
Registration fee: $75
Materials fee between $55-$75 depending on the size of your loom and market prices of yarn.
Maximum 18 students.

NOVEMBER IS FOR KNITTERS
PROGRAM: Beyond the Ball: A Deep Dive into Choosing the Perfect Yarn
SAT NOV 15, 2025 11 AM
Overwhelmed by the vast selection of yarn available today? Choosing the perfect yarn for your next fiber project doesn’t have to be stressful! In this talk, we’ll explore the key factors that make one yarn better suited for a project than another. You’ll learn how types of fiber impact texture, drape, and durability; how hand-spun yarn compares to commercially spun yarn; and how to accurately determine yarn weight for any project. Whether you're knitting, crocheting, or weaving, this class will equip you with the knowledge to make confident yarn choices and create beautiful, long-lasting garments.
Two workshops, one a full day and the other a half day
Paula Koerner, instructor
Workshop 1 - Take the EEEEK out of Steek, Friday, Nov 14 Full Day
Steeking can be scary and intimidating, however after this class you will be confident in applying steeking to future projects. Students will learn four types of steek reinforcements, and we will apply a steek to a colorwork bag that you will knit before class. You will receive these knitting instructions beforehand. You will knit in the round using 2 colors, forming a tube. During class we will turn that tube, seam the top and bottom, cut and steek it. You will then install a lining and a zipper in your bag and complete all the finishing touches so that you can apply these skills to a harder project like a steeked sweater. No materials fee.
Prerequisite Skills: Students must know how to knit in the round, knit stranded colorwork and follow instructions to knit 2 small bags before class so we can perform the steek during class. In order to feel comfortable in this class, students should know how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase, decrease, read basic knitting instructions and have previously completed a few projects.
Materials for Students to Bring:
● Two contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn It is best if the samples are made from 100% wool as that works best for steeking.
● US Size 7 or 8 16” circular needles
● Two completed samples (I will provide instructions closer to the workshop date.)
● Bring the yarn you used for the samples
● 1 or 2 12" separating zippers
● Small amount of material to line the bag
● Sewing needle & thread to match the main color of yarn
● Sharp Scissors
● Crochet Hook
● Contrasting Yarn in similar weight
● Bring your needles used for the sample and one size smaller if you have them
● Notion bag full of all the usual knitting notions
Registration fee: $60
Maximum 20 students.

Knitting workshop 2 - Perfectly Fitting Sweater
Saturday, November 15, after the guild meeting
Paula Koerner, instructor
This class will teach students how to understand yarn characteristics so that you can choose yarn that will perform the way you expect. We will do a deep dive into the importance of gauge and what to do when you can’t get your gauge to match the pattern requirements. We will explore the topic of fit and ease and learn what the difference is. That knowledge will help us figure out what all those numbers on the pattern mean and how they apply to you. We will discuss what measurements you need and actually take your measurements so that you can get started on your next sweater. We will learn about different body types and shapes and what kind of sweaters will flatter you. We will end the day with additional tips and my pre-knit checklist.
Prerequisite Skills: Knitters need to understand the basics of knitting, can knit and purl, perform increases and decreases and have completed at least a few knitted projects. If a student has knit a sweater before it is helpful, but not required.
Materials for Students to Bring: Please wear comfortable clothes that will allow for easy body measurements. Don’t wear anything bulky or loose as that will affect your measurement. The best choice is a favorite shirt, one that fits you well and is very comfortable that you might wear under a sweater. Bring a notepad, pen or pencil and a tape measure. I also invite you to bring a sweater pattern you are currently knitting or thinking about knitting.
No Materials fee.
Maximum 30 students.
Registration fee: $30
