Study Groups

  • 8 & Beyond Weaving Study Group

Eight and Beyond Study Group .  The date for meetings will be the 4th Tuesday of each month from 10:30-12:30 am and we will be meeting on Zoom - for now.

We are currently studying the new book published by Complex Weavers: Eight Shafts - Beyond the Beginning and enjoying the discussions.  We welcome new members interested in weaving with eight or more shafts and you can join at any time and all you need is the book.  8andbeyond@rmwg.org

  • Beyond the Scarf Study Group. Weaving for Clothing

We are having fun weaving for clothing and deciding about group projects as we go along. Currently we are weaving fabric for the Noh coat designed by Bonnie Cashin in an old ‘70s Threads magazine and this coat was used for a study at ANWG last summer. It is easily adapted to handwoven fabrics.

We also study and discuss choosing weave structures that work for the garment you might have in mind, colors and stripes, as well as choosing and sharing patterns and fitting and altering. Our members are of all levels of experience in sewing and weaving and there is a lot of sharing and helping each other.

Interested people of any level can join at any time. Any questions contact scarf@rmwg.org

  • Shibori Study Group

Debbie Behrens has started a Shibori Study Group for all levels, beginner through
advanced. Shibori is a Japanese technique, similar to “tie and dye,” that shapes and
secures cloth by various means--folding, crumpling, stitching, plaiting, plucking, or
twisting—thus giving fabric a three-dimensional form before dyeing. Please
email shibori@rmwg.org to indicate your interest and find out when/where the next meeting is.

  • Rookies Out of Bounds Study Group

Rookies is a group consisting of a variety of levels of weavers from beginning to advanced. We meet on the first Saturday of the month, 10am-noon in the Activity Room of the Church. It is a great way to meet members individually. Each year we set up a study/challenge to expand our knowledge of weaving. At our meetings, we do a show and tell and share ideas and help solve problems. Should you like to join us please contact rookies@rmwg.org.

  • Banded Together Tablet Weaving Study Group

Banded Together is for anyone that shares an interest and enthusiasm for tablet weaving from beginners to experts. We meet from 9:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Harvey Park Christian Church. Any questions about this group can be directed to tabletweaving@rmwg.org.

  • Dances with Wool Spinning Study Group

Dances with Wool Spinning Group meets on the second Saturday of the month in the Activity room of the church from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. This group is currently meeting in person and welcomes new members at any time. There is not a planned project, but If there is something someone in the group wants to learn, there is probably someone who can teach it. This group meets year-round and is always willing to help someone new. Contact danceswithwool@rmwg.org .

  • Adventures in Knitting

Adventures in Knitting is a technique based knit along study group for all skill levels. We meet the third Monday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During each meeting we discuss a specific knitting technique, along with patterns to practice what we've learned. Examples of knitting techniques to be studied include cast ons/offs, brioche knitting, cables, mosaic knitting, finishing techniques, mastering gauge, colorwork and more. Since knitting is done just one stitch at a time, new members are welcome to join at any time. We plan techniques and patterns to study as a group, so bring your ideas to share!

We are currently studying magic loop TAAT mittens. The group will be on break starting in June and will resume in September. Members are encouraged to explore knitted toys over the summer!

    To join, contact adventuresinknitting@rmwg.org.

Meeting time: Third Monday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Harvey Park Christian Church, Fellowship Hall, 3401 S Lowell Blvd, Denver, CO 80236

  • Mentoring

One of the goals of the guild is to pass our knowledge of weaving, spinning, dyeing, and other fiber arts on to others. To facilitate that within the guild we encourage mentoring. In previous years we have paired seekers with mentors, have held mentoring groups and have helped to direct inquirers to places in the community where they can take classes. We have also sometimes had an open mentoring session after each regular guild meeting. The purpose is to encourage individuals by answering questions and pairing them with other guild members who will be able to continue to help. If you are interested as either a mentor or a seeker, send a request to president@rmwg.org.
