Welcome Back

Big Show and Tell at the Meeting

Connie Lippert

Program: Wedge Weave Survey

Even though wedge weave was practiced by the Navajo in the late 1880’s, it virtually disappeared for a century. Today, wherever you find an exhibition of weaving, wedge weave is almost always represented. How did this happen? I have my theories.

The wedge weave technique will be described through images. My work, as well as a few other weavers practicing this technique, will be presented.

Wedge Weave Workshop

October 16, 17, 18

Full -Waitlisted

In contrast to most weaves which are woven in a plane horizontal to the loom, wedge weave is woven on the diagonal. This results in a weft-faced weave with many distinctive characteristics and exciting design potential. Work on your own pre-warped loom to explore this technique with Connie.

Class level: Students should have warping and weaving knowledge. Some weft-faced weaving experience is helpful though not required.

Equipment: Floor loom, table loom, or tapestry loom, pre-warped required. Instructions and materials available upon registration.

Workshop Fee: 3 day workshop, $195, no material fee

Limited to 12 participants. Any questions, contact workshop facilitator Judy@rmwg.org

Jean Herman

Program: My Art Quilting Journey

Jean Herman is an artist who has experimented with various mediums, but for the last ten years, she has worked in fiber.  She uses fiber, drawing with an air pen, paint, fabric, stitching, and collage to create unique representational pieces that are impressionistic and painterly.  Come hear Jean tell her story of how she began as a quilter who turned artist.

WORKSHOP

NOVEMBER 14TH AND 15TH, 2024

(PRIOR TO MEETING)

CREATING LANDSCAPE ART QUILTS USING COLLAGE

Participants Need to Bring:  A sewing machine with a free motion quilting foot.  Participants are encouraged to bring fabric to use and share.  Scraps of fabric work very well.  You can also bring a magazine to use or share for cutting up for paper collage.

The teacher will provide:  gel medium, cheap scissors, paper for collage, brushes, fabric paint, boxes of scraps and other fabrics to share.

Questions:  Contact workshop facilitator:  Terry at terry@rmwg.org

Each workshop is a full day from 9:30 to 4:30 with an hour break for lunch.

If you have always loved fabric and want to translate it into a wonderful art quilt, this class is for you.  Learn how to compose a design that you can then create with pieces of fabric into a fabulous landscape quilt.  You will use collage techniques and then free motion stitching to create texture and interest.  The class is good for both experienced quilters and those who have never quilted.  See Jean’s website at www.jeanherman.com.

LEVEL:  Beginner to Advanced
